HART

Humboldt Alcohol Recovery Treatment (HART) has provided DUI  Program Services for Humboldt County since July 1991. We provide programs for any individual who has been arrested or convicted of Driving Under the Influence of alcohol or drugs.

All HART programs are licensed by the State Department of Alcohol and Drug Services, pursuant to Title 9, Chapter 3 of the California Code of Regulations.  We work in cooperation with the criminal justice system as well as with the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

The goal of HART is to assist the client participating in the program to recognize his/her level of chemical dependency, acquaint him/her with life problems associated with chemical dependency, and to aid in their recovery.  Our staff works within the parameters of Title 9 to assist the client in making positive changes in their daily lives and to give them the tools to avoid future DUI offenses by providing quality group, face to face, and education components. Referral to other services are made as appropriate, or requested.

HART is a member of the California Association of Drinking Driver Treatment programs (CADDTP), and our staff actively participates with various State and Local continuing education trainings.  All of our staff are state certified or registered as interns.

Dorcas began meeting the food and clothing needs of low-income families in the Eel River Valley over 55 years ago. The Dorcas program continues to meet the needs of the clients who walk through their doors with a “choice” food pantry and vouchers to shop at Tabitha’s Place for clothing, bedding, and household items.

Tabithas’ Place

Tabithas’ Place is a Community Thrift Store
Tabitha’s is run by individuals of service who are spending their time so that those in need may be helped. All profits earned at Tabitha’s Place will be used to aid Fortuna Adventist Community Services with its mission to those in need. Profits will be used to purchase food for the food bank, then for other special needs as funding allows.

Who was Tabitha? (based on Acts 9:32-42)
There was a woman in Joppa, a disciple called Tabitha, whose name in Greek was Dorcas (meaning Gazelle). Her whole life was full of good and kindly actions, she became seriously ill and died. So when they had washed her body they laid her in an upper room. Now Lydia is quite near Joppa, and when the disciples heard that peter was in Lydia, they sent two men to him and begged him, “Please come to us without delay.” Peter got up and went back with them, and when he arrived in Joppa they took him to the room upstairs. All the widows stood around him with tears in their eyes, holding out for him to see the dresses and cloaks which Tabitha used to make for them while she was with them. But Peter put them all outside the room and knelt down and prayed. The he turned to the body and said “Tabitha, get up!” she opened her eyes, and as soon as shoe sea Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand, helped her to her feet, and then called out to the believers and widows and presented her to them alive. This became known throughout the whole of Joppa and many believed in the Lord.
